Group Life/AD&D, Dental and Vision
Group Life and AD&D
An important coverage normally paid for by the employer. Cover may be purchased by classification of employee or on all employees in a flat amount for all or multiples of annual salary.
Many companies will purchase a set amount for employees and allow the individual employee to purchase higher amounts to best suit that employees needs. Depending on the size of the group, a certain amount can be purchased “guaranteed issue” enabling some employees to purchase individual insurance under the group scenario when they might otherwise be unable.
Dental
Dental insurance may not be as important as disability insurance but is a firm favorite with employees. Plans can be purchased either by the employer or provided for employees to purchase for themselves through payroll deduction.
Traditional plans afford 100% coverage for preventive services, 80% for basic and 50% for major services up to a calendar year maximum of $1,000 or $1,500. Orthodontia is optional with a separate lifetime limit. This is normally for children under a certain age. Waiting periods often apply for first time cover.
Vision
This is an inexpensive benefit that employees appreciate. Vision plans come in all shapes and sizes but usually include co-pay for an eye exam then contact lenses and frames once every year or two. Discounts on Lasik surgery are usual.
Many plans are offered on a voluntary basis or are strictly discount plans with no insurance element.
